We didn't go to Cairns after all, so the reef will just have to wait.

Hinchinbrook island looked a bit like this:

with some of this:

and lots of this:

We were out for 4 nights and 5 days, hiking south down the island during the mornings, and relaxing on the beach after noon. Those hills were one fantastic leg workout.

Mental hindsight checklist: I am and always will be the mosquito's favorite meal; watch for the crocodile warning signs; jungles are nasty places so don't camp there; cover your mouth while walking through a swirling cloud of a billion orange moths; Nora Beach campsite is unmarked but thats a good thing; learn how to change the meter setting on your camera before you go so you don't overexpose clouds and waterfalls; hammocks suck; sand is omnipresent.

Photographing fire is some wierd stuff. This one has to be a jpeg or it looks like crap, so it might take a minute to load:

The other photos look better as jpegs too, but they were huge.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,
who at this evening hour lay in the tomb
and so hallowed the grave
to be a bed of hope for all who trust in you;
give us such sorrow for our sins,
which were the cause of your passion
that, when our bodies lie in the dust,
our souls may live with you forever.
Amen.
